So I had this post prepared for the Grimrock thread thought it would be better for another discussion specifically focused on these classics. The only real challenge in majority of those games comes from: mapping or lack of thereof, no way to easily identify found gear i.e. The rules are basically very simple (none of the Fallout or Baldur's Gate 'complex' stuff), the combat is super straightforward: fighters attack, mages cast Fireballs, clerics cast Heal etc. It's surprising how many of those old CRPGs still hold up as long as you give them a pass on their graphics.
